SEOUL -- KT, South Korea's largest telecom company, will showcase a satellite backup solution that would ensure the survivability of emergency communication networks in case of disasters by providing selective communication bypass.

KT said the portable satellite backup communication solution is used to establish optimized backup communication networks by connecting one end of a network to a satellite. It also finds another undamaged network to provide seamless data communication.

Currently, South Korea and other countries operate backup emergency communication networks based on landlines and 4G LTE. However, it is hard to establish a perfect emergency network when base stations and network nodes are damaged by disasters.

Emergency responders sometimes carry handheld network devices which create a mesh of communication at disaster sites but it becomes useless when all nearby communication lines are down.
